The State Seal of Biliteracy, AB815, was signed by the governor and enacted into California Education Code on October 8, 2011, and amended by AB 1142 in 2017 (see link below). The California State Seal of Biliteracy CDE (SSB), marked by a gold seal affixed on the diploma and noted on the transcript, recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English.
