Pathway to Biliteracy Recognitions

Developing advanced levels of proficiency in more than one language is a long-term process that begins early in a child’s educational journey. The SDUSD Seal of Biliteracy includes a system of Pathway Awards from preschool through high school, recognizing key milestones as students progress toward biliteracy.

These awards celebrate students’ ongoing engagement in learning multiple languages, promote positive attitudes toward multilingualism, and affirm the value of using more than one language. They also encourage students to continue building their language skills through sustained, sequential world language study, particularly at the secondary level.
